I thought I would show you who REALLY enjoys the new pillow!
Every since I finished this pillow, our cat Tux, has claimed it as her own. She sleeps on it all day long until the evening when she sits on my lap. She is such a little cutie!
I found a cute scarf pattern, Scarf that Sparkles, online on the redheart website. Since I had the yarn in my stash and I liked the way it looked I decided to start it.
I’m not quite sure, now that I’ve started knitting, that I like it – my husband said this part in the picture reminds him of a poodle, but it is fun to knit. Knitting with the pompom yarn is fun!
I tried Chicken Enchiladas…
And boy were they delicious!! They were a hit with all seven family members-you can’t beat that!
I can honestly say that every recipe I have tried from the above book has turned out deliciously! I would highly recommend looking through it.
This was a super fun knit!!
But what is it??
It’s a snowflake! You have to look at it from the side in order to see the design. This pattern is from Emiy Byrd Adams and is called “Snowflake Illusion Scarf”. You can find the pattern here on Ravelry.
This one is so pretty it is going into the present bin for Christmas 2015!!
Awhile back we had a pretty big storm here – not as big as in other parts of the country, but big for us. Lots and lots of rain fell and we had many big fun puddles to play in. It also rained inside our home but that is a story for another day.
We decided to go to our local elementary school. Since we had just been there picking up my youngest, we knew there were some VERY nice puddles just waiting to be jumped in.
Riding through the puddles was fun too!
The water was pretty deep – see how it is half way up the bicycle wheels?
Lots and lots of splashing.
What you can’t see is that both myself and G and our dog were all also wading through the puddles.
No better way to end an evening spent jumping in cold puddles, than to drink hot chocolate :o)
We are extremely addicted to these puzzles. No sooner is one finished than we feel the NEED to start another one. It appears that no one in this house is able to walk past the puzzle table without stopping and placing a piece.
I think this puzzle is so pretty, but I think it will take us awhile to finish it.
Lots and lots of blue and even the buildings are very similar in color and shape.
I finally found some time to write up the tutorial for the Name Pillows that I made for the family for Christmas.
You will need:
2 different knit fabrics (one for the pillow, both sides and one for the letters) – my pillows are approximately 16″ square so I had enough of the pillow fabric for two of those and enough of the backing fabric for one 16″ square.
I made my pattern out of cardboard. Since I wanted my finished pillows to measure 16″ and I was planning on a 1/4″ seam allowance, my pattern was made to a 16 1/2″ square.
I just used an old box for the pattern – nothing fancy. This is how I usually make simple patterns.
The backing fabric should be a good contrast to the pillow fabric. Here I am using the turquoise fabric for the pillow and the white for the contrast.
I placed the fabrics in a pile and traced the pattern out.
After you have your fabrics laid out, place the pattern on the fabric and…
Trace around the pattern, then cut along the traced lines. You will have your pillow shape.
Pin one pillow square on top of the contrast square, leaving the remaining pillow square for later. Write the desired name on the pillow leaving enough space in between the letters to create “bubble” letters later. I wrote mine on the diagonal from corner to corner, but you can write it any way you would like. After the name is written, go back and draw more lines on the outside of the original letters so that you have something that looks like the above.
Stitch on the outlines of the letters. You need enough room inside the stitching line to cut that fabric.
Once you have stitched the outlines, cut the top fabric only leaving the contrast fabric to “shine” through. Repeat for the rest of the letters. Then sew the back of the pillow to the front of the pillow, right sides together – leaving an opening for stuffing. Turn right side out and stuff pillow to desired firmness and sew the hole closed. TA DA!! You have your finished Name Pillow!
It’s pretty simple and makes a big statement! Have fun!
