Sample Knitted Doll

I teach knitting (along with other fiber arts) to kids ages 8-15.  I am always trying to make new things for them to see as possibilities for new projects.  I am so amazed at what they can do!

Sweet Little Doll.

Sweet Little Doll.

This little doll is a pretty easy one to make.  Each piece is knitted flat, sewn and stuffed.  Isn’t she so sweet?

Roller Derby!

We decided to go outside the box and do something completely different.  We were able to get some discount tickets to the Roller Derby.

Another fabulous outing!

Chickens!

Our chickens are doing so well!  The have grown by leaps and bounds since last June when we brought them home as teeny tiny little chicks.

Short Wing.

Short Wing.

I know I’m not supposed to have favorites, but this one, Short Wing, is my favorite.  She’s really smart – she can get out of any enclosure and figured out how to follow the cat into the house through the cat door.  Imagine our surprise when we heard a fuss in the living room and there was our chicken chasing our cat around the room!!

We get three eggs a day and sometimes we don’t eat them quick enough.  Looks like it’s time for some baking!

Wild Rice and Mushroom Soup

I was at Cost Plus World Market the other day and saw one of those kits for soup that looked pretty good.

The best part was that I could cook it in the crock pot while I was teaching.  It is really nice to finish up with all my students and have dinner waiting for me with minimal work.

Doesn’t that look so yummy?!!  My husband and I loved it, the kids only thought it was so-so.  It is one of the things I will make once in awhile – but boy did I enjoy this soup.

My second child just turned 17 years old!

How did this happen?  Wasn’t she just 6 months old yesterday?

Family Time

We have really gotten into the habit of going somewhere on the weekend as a family, if only for a little bit.

I am so grateful that my kids still like to hang with me.  Even the teenagers have fun on our little outings!  Such simple pleasures.

Simple Things

For today, March 20th, 2015 I am thinking about the simple things in life that make me happy.  I am inspired by The Simple Woman’s blog.  So here goes.

Outside my window:  the sun is shining.  It has been very nice all day and some of my kids are outside playing.

I am thinking about:

Part of my garden.

Part of my garden.

My garden and how much joy it brings me.  There is a table out there and I love to come home after the school run and sit for a moment.

Empty Bed

Tomorrow I shall fill this empty planter box with strawberries.  It is so fun to see the kids go out there first thing in the morning to check to see if there are any ripe strawberries – they eat them right away!

I am thankful for:

The 17 year old and the 15 year old.

The 17 year old and the 15 year old.

My family.  These are two of our five children – two others are outside playing and the oldest is away at college.  Hubby will be home soon and we will all have dinner together.  Simple pleasures.

I am wearing:  Capri jeans, 3/4 sleeve yellow t-shirt, sandals and a vest.

I am creating:

Sophie's Universe

Sophie’s Universe

I joined the Sophie’s Universe CALl and am loving every minute of it.  I have fallen dreadfully behind, but it doesn’t seem to be bothering me.  I am just enjoying what I can do when I can do it.

I am going to:

New book!

New book!

be making some samples out of this book for my class.  I teach children ages 8yrs to 15 yrs to sew, weave, knit, crochet, and make jewelry.  It’s the most fun I’ve had working ever.

I am wondering:  What to make for dinner :o)

I am reading:

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner.

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner.

I read The Maze Runner and couldn’t put it down.  Now I am about 1/4 of the way through this book and am finding it quite the page turner.

I am hoping:

Fabrics for class.

Fabrics for class.

to organize all my fabrics before class next week.

I am learning (or trying to learn): to listen to my body when it tells me to go to sleep.

I am pondering:  new elements to add to my jewelry making camp this summer.

A favorite quote for today:

I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition.

It truly is the simple things in life that make me the most happy.
