Blueberry Brioche

Well…the Tasty app has hit again!  I was looking at it while waiting for one of the kids at the orthodontist and this recipe popped up.  I watched the little video and then emailed it to myself.  It was pretty easy.IMG_1702

I was a little worried because the first rise did not rise very well.  The second rise was fine and the resulting bread looked great.IMG_1706

I think the blueberries were a little too big, the holes were pretty large.  Everyone liked it so I think I’ll make it again, but next time I’ll use dried blueberries and see how that turns out.

Tux and Honeybee

Our two cats are getting up there in age and don’t really play around like they used to.  They really prefer to…

Lazy Cats

Sleep on my daughter’s bed.

Tux

This one is so sweet.  We also refer to her as dogcat because she acts like a dog.  She follows me everywhere I go.  When I sit to work on the computer, or stitch, or sew, she either sits on my lap or on the chair right next to me.  She is always talking to me and when I get home, she greets me at the door.

Honeybee

This guy is also sweet but more stately and fluffy.  He just moves from bed to bed making sure to share himself with each person in the family every night.  During the day he stays on my daughter’s pillow.  Both cats are so sweet!

Ta Da!

The second crochet plastic bag is finished!IMG_1721

This rectangle shape is much better and I think it will be more useful that the first one.  It’s still a little big so the next one will be about half this size.IMG_1720

What a sport she is!  This bag went together much more quickly than the other one.

In use!

It was quickly put to use on my next shopping trip and worked really well.  I did get a few strange looks when I pulled it out of the cart, but no one actually said anything to me.  I wouldn’t put anything super heavy in here – no cans, but I used it for boxes of crackers, small baking supplied and of course my son’s favorite chips!

Slow Cooker Applesauce

I have always made applesauce on the stove top.  It really doesn’t take all that long and usually while it’s going I’m doing something else in the kitchen so I can keep an eye on it.  I came across a recipe for applesauce in the crockpot and thought I would give that a try.  I do love my crockpot and the ability to just put food in there and leave it for a bit.

Quarter, core and peel the apples.

I prepared the apples the same way as I always do and followed the recipe which was pretty close to the way I do it on the stove top.  The big difference is that you leave it for four hours.  On this particular day that was perfect.  I needed to walk the dog and do a few errands and I thought it would be great to come home to a nice smelling kitchen and some applesauce for the kids when they got home from school.

Three pints of applesauce.

I used 12 apples and got three pints of applesauce.  This applesauce is too runny for my taste.  We like our applesauce a little chunky.  That being said, the 15 yo girl really enjoyed it and ate almost half of one of these jars after school.  The rest (including me) didn’t really care for it.  I see more applesauce cake in my future.

I’m not sure what I did wrong.  Maybe the apples were left a little too long in the slow cooker?  Maybe I used the immersion blender a little too vigorously?  I don’t know, but I think I’ll stick to the stove top.  I like the way the sauce comes out and I really don’t mind watching over it.

Mini Rant

OK…I know it is not watermelon season…BUT…sometimes when the kids are having a sleepover, I buy a watermelon and make melon balls as part of their breakfast the next morning.  We usually get most of our produce at Costco.  With all these kids who are eating me out of house and home, Costco is really the only place I can afford to buy flats and flats of produce.  On our weekly trip I bought two of those mini SEEDLESS watermelons.

IMG_1729

See? It says “SEEDLESS” on the tag.

It was early and I was also making some waffles.  One of the friends who were staying over had to leave soon so I was rushing.  I opened the bag and cut into one of the watermelons…

IMG_1728

Hmmm…are those seeds I spy?

and the whole watermelon was populated with seeds.  I quickly opened the other one and it was the same thing.  I would up cutting little wedges and the kids enjoyed it anyway, but I was not happy.  It if says SEEDLESS, it really should be seedless.  Ok, rant over!

SAL Update

Or lack thereof…

11/19 update – closeup

I have not had a chance to get to this project in the last three weeks.  How sad is that?  I have been busily working on other things.  I really need to get back to it!

Please take a look at the other members in our SAL group who are much more prolific at stitching than I.

Brussel Sprouts

Our family loves brussels sprouts.  Usually I just toss them with olive oil and a little salt and pop them into the oven, but this Brussels Sprouts Gratin recipe from Skinnytaste found it’s way into my email inbox and I had to give it a try.

Brussels Sprouts Gratin

I think this is one of the only recipes I have ever made where the end product looks like the photo from the recipe.  This was simply delicious and easy to make.  My husband and every single one of my kids enjoyed this dish.  A complete win!

Teaching again!!

I’m excited to be back teaching again starting in February!!Slide1

I can’t wait to get started and it’s such a great name for my studio, Let’s Go Crafting!  And more good things are happening!  I was hired by our local art center to teach a pre-school fiber arts class and a tween fiber arts class – that will be so fun.  AND one of the local consignment shops decided to have my beaded eggs in their shop!!  I’m on cloud nine!

Light homework load

When the kids come home from school, I like to have a snack waiting and I like to sit with them and hear about whatever they want to share.  Sometimes they talk about school, sometimes it’s friends, sometimes they just joke around with each other, and sometimes they are in a bad mood and don’t want to talk at all.  I just enjoy being there at this time to reconnect with them.IMG_1694

On this particular day there were only two of them and neither one had much homework so there was time for a few games of UNO and a snack before getting on with the afternoon.  So much laughter and fun – I am grateful for these times!
