I love participating in this SAL. I love seeing what all the other talented stitchers in this group are doing! I am very pleased with the progress I have made on this project this month! I feel like i have my old stitching mojo back.
This is where I was last month. Here is where I am now:
Santa is coming along nicely. I ran out of one of the colors for the fur around the hat – I just purchased some more and hope it matches. This pattern is from a kit and they hand dye all their threads – multiple unanswered emails sent me out to the store. If my thread does not match, I’ll be ripping and shopping more!
About the SAL in case you would like to join us
This SAL (Stitch Along) is slightly different to other SALs in that we don’t all stitch the same design at the same rate. We choose ONE unfinished project, or ONE new one, and show progress of its completion over a series of three weekly updates. There are no deadlines and no set amount to stitch. The result is that the space in our drawers full of WIPs (works in progress) is gradually being freed up to store lots of new crafty goodness. It’s surprising how much motivation I’ve gained from being in this SAL. If you’d like to finish a project you’ve left unfinished for a while, or start a new one with us, you can join us by contacting Avis fromSewing Beside the Sea.

Nice to see Santa appearing. I do hope you’re lucky with the new thread shades!
I have started stitching with the new threads and they are not exact but close enough. I’m happy with them!
That’s great news. Phew!
Ooh, I hope your threads match up well! You really added a lot this round, it is looking splendid!
Thanks, Kathy. I started stitching with the new thread and it works pretty well. I can tell the difference up close, but once I lay the piece down, the shading looks fine. My son will never know!
Hurrah!
Hand dyed sounds great until you can’t get any more in the same dye lot… Fingers crossed your new lot is a good enough match.
Absolutely!! Hand dyed is great until you run out! The new thread seems to be working well – shading is good.
I’ve had experience with running out of thread. I hope your new thread blends right in. Santa is emerging from the fog. Looking good
Thanks! The new threads are working out fine.
Wow, great progress! I really hope the threads match so you don’t have to unstitch all that hard work.
Thank you so much! Yes, the new threads are working well.
Very pretty
Thank you!
looking lovely. I hope the thread is the right match.
Thanks! The thread is really close and I think I will be the only one to be able to tell the difference. Definitely not my dear son!
Wonderful progress on this stocking ! I have one in my stash waiting to get started, since I had the goal of making one per family member, but with only 2 gifted ones so far I have a lot of work ahead of me (and I wanted to clear some existing WIPS first)
Thanks so much! Yes, these stockings do take a LOT of time! I’ve done two, I’m working on this one and have four more to go. Then my oldest daughter is really serious with her boyfriend….
I see Santa!! I’ve always thought I wanted to do a needlepoint stocking, but probably never will. The older I get, the more my eyes don’t like cross stitch. I should have done it when I was young.
Ha! I had to laugh at this! I LOVE cross stitch and needlepoint, but as the years go by, my glasses are getting stronger and stronger!! With some of the smaller counts I have to wear my glasses and use the magnifying glass around my neck!
Great progress, lovely to see Santa starting to appear
Thanks!
I hope you don’t have to rip anything out due to a poor color match! Is it too late to blend some of the original thread with the newer stuff in each needle’s worth? This is looking so good overall. You’ve made great progress since the last time I saw it (which has been some time ago unfortunately).
It would have been a good plan to try to blend threads! I was not paying close enough attention and thought I had ample, but with one thread left, I realized I was wrong. The new threads seems to be working well. I will finish the one part I am working and then take a really critical look to see if I need to rip.
My first reaction was “I can see Santa!!!!!”. Looking great!!!
Thank you!
You made great progress. The first thing I noticed was that Santa was starting to appear.
Good luck finding matching thread
Thanks! I think I have thread that will work well.
Great!
It’s funny to read earlier comments and see that other people also thought, “Oooh, I see Santa!” Great progress on the stocking!
Thanks!
You’ve definitely got your mojo back! It’s looking great. Fingers crossed on the colour matching.
Thanks so much! I think I found one that works really well. I have begun stitching with it and it looks good and blends well. Time will tell if I like it or not.
You’ve made a lot of progress so congrats. And I’m so badly you have because this is such a lovely project. I love all the warm and bold colours.
