Every year, for Christmas, I make our family individual gifts. I have made scarves, hats, mittens, blankets (that was a crazy year!!! 5 twin size and 1 king size blanket in one year), jewelry, jammies, etc. This year I made Name Pillows! I made one for each of my kids, one for my husband and one for my niece.
They are really not very hard to make. I’ll try to write up the tutorial in a few days to share with you!
Well…I didn’t finish in time for Christmas. I guess I let myself get too distracted by other things :o( My daughter is not disappointed, but I am.
Some progress on the bird and the flower.
I worked on the hat for a little bit. Almost done with the bird and started the flower.
A little more time was spent. Truly this is a slow and steady project!
I took this project along with me when I flew to see my oldest daughter in Illinois. You can get a lot of stitching done on a three hour plane ride!
This is what it looks like now. Below is what it looked like before the trip.
Progress to date.
Quite a difference!! I guess I need to take more plane rides!
I have been working a little bit here and there on a Christmas stocking for my second oldest daughter and slowly elements are taking shape.
Finished bird before backstitching.
I finally finished this little birdie and all the surrounding stitches. This is what he looked like before backstitching.
This is what he looks like now that the backstitching has been finished. What a huge difference, don’t you think?
Progress to date.
As you can see I am making slow but steady progress. Will I finish before Christmas?? Only time will tell… I sure hope so!
Another fun stitching art that I enjoy immensely is cross stitch. I made a very time consuming cross stitch Christmas Stocking for my oldest daughter last year and have been working on another one for the next oldest daughter. I set it aside for a bit to work on various other projects, but have recently picked it up again to try to finish before Christmas this year.
This is how far I had gotten before I started stitching this afternoon.
I decided to work on this little bird – I like to finish different motif’s and then do the backstitching on them right away. Since backstitching is NOT my favorite thing to do, I try to get as much done as I go as I can.
This is what the little bird looks like now after about an hour of stitching. Not too much to go before I can backstitch him. Isn’t he so cute?!
